A Workshop with Ariel Freedman

Baryshnikov Arts Center
450 West 37th Street (37 ARTS building)
Registration for this event is currently closed.
About the Workshop:
Gaga, a dance technique conceived by Ohad Naharin, artistic director of the Israel-based Batsheva Dance Company, is an evolving language of movement research designed to access an ever-expanding range of physicality through the imagery of sensation. The two-week workshop series with Ariel Freedman will introduce the gaga vocabulary as a way into the repertoire of the Batsheva Dance Company and Ensemble.
Daily workshop sessions will begin with an hour-long class presented in the format that is given to the dancers of Batsheva, with a focus on building the specific vocabulary of sensation and physicality that is the basis of gaga. During the second part of each session, dancers will learn sections of works from Naharin's repertoire.
Ariel Freedman earned her BFA at The Juilliard School, where she was a recipient of the Martha Hill Prize. She has performed in New York and on tour with Aszure & Artists, Hell's Kitchen Dance company, and David Parker and The Bang Group. She is currently in her second season with the Batsheva Ensemble.
